About this show

Introduction

In this episode of TechTalk, Dominik and Claudie Richardson discuss various technology and security topics. Key moments include a critique of Google Chrome's password security, a look at the legalities of music sharing via the Jamie Thomas case, and a detailed discussion on data preservation and encryption featuring technical recommendations from guest Dixon.

Dominik and Claudie Richardson discuss Google Chrome's lack of a master password feature, which allows saved passwords to be viewed by others. The programme also covers the legalities of music sharing, specifically a case involving Jamie Thomas and Kazaa. In a discussion on data preservation, Dominik shares a personal story about losing a photograph of his deceased dog after his laptop was stolen on a train, leading him to advise on on-site and off-site backups. Guest Dixon provides further technical recommendations, including the use of Microsoft SyncToy for hard drive backups, Gmail for document storage, Carbonite for automatic cloud backups, and TrueCrypt for hard drive encryption.

Show passwords. So anybody who comes to that computer and where you have saved your password, they can see what the password is. They don't even have to look at the. They don't just see the stars. They see actual the actual password.

Happened when my laptop was stolen. There was a photograph. That was the thing I was most upset about. A photograph of my dog that wasn't with me anymore, up in doggy heaven, which everyone sob. I've made everybody sad. I've brought the tone down, haven't I? But I didn't have that.

Encryption basically means you. That's what the government is not doing with all these CDs they're losing. But it's basically something you basically crunch your data and then it makes into a blob that nobody can decipher unless they have a really good password. Your password.
