In this episode of TechTalk, presenter Tim McQuade and guests Dominik and Ross Patzels discuss various technological and personal topics. Dominik provides advice on avoiding phishing emails and criticizes the BBC iPlayer and the 'evil technology' of Digital Rights Management (DRM), noting that subscriptions like Napster result in losing music once the subscription ends. Ross shares his method for finding legal free MP3s via band newsletters. The conversation shifts to personal history, where Dominik discusses growing up in a communist country and the 1993 split of Czechoslovakia, while Ross mentions winning a trip to Bratislava. DRM or digital rights management, and it's evil technology. Really, I mean, it does not, it does nobody any good. And maybe we could probably talk about that on its own. And but hopefully, there's some good news last week.
And so, in a way, they're saying we're selling you music, but that's what they're doing—they're renting you music—and that—that is the you know that is the big problem with it. And hopefully, that is changing now because they're realizing it's not stopping piracy; it's just annoying.
And so, how old were you in 1968? I was minus three. Minus three. All right. So, what are your memories of that day? Yes, my memories are very vivid. I must say, yes. And and so, growing up, and presumably you grew up in a communist country. Yes, I grew up in a communist country. I was 18 when the when the whole thing broke down.
